What is climate change

Climate change is the long-term alteration of temperature and typical weather patterns in a place. Climate change could refer to a particular location or the planet as a whole. Climate change is a question of the whole world. Due to erratic weather, the temperature of the earth increases day by day. Climate change is having an effect on the organism.

Climate change and global warming account for 90% of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane. Burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) for energy consumption.

Why is climate change important

It became necessary for us to study climate change. The agricultural sector is greatly affected due to erratic monsoon.

Studying the climate helps us predict how much rain the next winter might bring, or how far sea levels will rise due to warmer sea temperatures. … We can also see which regions are most likely to be affected by extreme weather, or which wildlife species are threatened by climate change.

Temperature Rise

Multiple independently produced instrumental datasets show that the climate system is warming, with the 2009–2018 decade being 0.93 ± 0.07 °C (1.67 ± 0.13 °F) warmer than the pre-industrial baseline (1850–1900).[32] Currently, surface temperatures are rising by about 0.2 °C (0.36 °F) per decade, with 2020 reaching a temperature of 1.2 °C (2.2 °F) above pre-industrial. Since 1950, the number of cold days and nights has decreased, and the number of warm days and nights has increased

Before the 1980s, when it was unclear whether warming by greenhouse gases would dominate aerosol-induced cooling, scientists often used the term inadvertent climate modification to refer to humankind’s impact on the climate. In the 1980s, the terms global warming and climate change were popularised, the former referring only to increased surface warming, the latter describing the full effect of greenhouse gases on the climate. Global warming became the most popular term after NASA climate scientist James Hansen used it in his 1988 testimony in the U.S. Senate. In the 2000s, the term climate change increased in popularity. Global warming usually refers to human-induced warming of the Earth system, whereas climate change can refer to natural as well as anthropogenic change. The two terms are often used interchangeably
