Horror fans have something to cheer about the week leading up to Halloween. With a 34.3 million dollar debut looks like the fans are very happy. The SAW saga is back to cut up the competition! The third instalment is directed by SAW II veteran Darren Lynn Bousman and is perhaps the bloodiest of the lot. SAW III sees the blood and flesh thirsty sadist Jigsaw in the role of a marriage councillor - John Kramer, to a couple who are recoving from the loss of their son. Adding to blood ‘n’ gut filled mayhem is Amanda – a masochist to add to the sadism that the series thrives on – She attacks herself if no victim is on hand! So this S&M flick spiced with racks, ropes and other torture devices gives the audience all the screams and thrills needed. Jigsaw is troubled by a little lump in the brain (brain tumour) and lets his sidekick takeover for the most part.

A rack that twists the victim’s bones pop out, and an abattoir-inspired scenario involving piglets is enough to turn the strongest stomach but adding to the gore-fest is the underlying theme of humanity’s dark craving for revenge. Humanity is capable of giving up its right to that term in that quest to avenge past deeds. Thus aided by do or die puzzles and torture games Saw III has become the Halloween Horror of this year.

It is a gore-filled tale and has picked the right week to dominate the box office exceeding both Saw & Saw II in its 3 –day revenue. In 2004 saw made 18.3 million, last year the sequel made 31.7 million but this edition has truly established the series with a 34. 3 million turnover in
